"Out to Lunch" Podcast with Peter Ricchiuti!
Peter’s guests on Out to Lunch are both in fields that have been upended by technology: photography, and book sales.
"Amazon rewrote the rules on how people buy books. And the smart-phone and Instagram have turned everybody into a photographer. Within these crowded spaces, both of my guests, Olivia Grey Pritchard and Candice Huber, have successfully carved out their own markets.
We’ve talked here before about how the career of professional photographer has been battered by the extraordinary number of amateur photographers in the world – everybody who owns a cell phone – and the ease with which photographers’ work is stolen off the internet.
Olivia Grey Pritchard has figured out a way to succeed as a photographer in this tough environment. Part of Olivia’s success is centered on educating other photographers on how to run a successful photography business. She teaches online classes and conducts mentoring sessions for professional photographers.
And in her own photography work, Olivia delivers more than just digital files of photos. If you hire Olivia to be your photographer, you end up with a piece of framed wall art, an archival-quality photo album, or a unique family movie. And, in a world where we’re bombarded by images that only last a fraction of a second before we swipe or scroll them away forever, being able to have a photo of your family, yourself, or even your dog, that’s good enough to frame and hang on your wall is equally refreshing." "A recent article written for The Atlantic posed the question, “Why are so many millennials obsessed with their dogs,” – to which the writer Amanda Mull noted in the subhead “The only thing getting me through my 30s is a cranky, agoraphobic chihuahua named Midge.” Dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, but the billion-dollar industry has seen an increase in the last few decades, and an even larger boost during the pandemic. Dogs, no matter the breed, are considered family members, adored by their owners. Olivia Grey Pritchard has been taking photos of people and places all over the world, but her newest set of clients is of the four-legged kind, capturing gorgeous shots of local New Orleans family’s furry members. This September, Pritchard released her new coffee table book “Mutts: A Celebration of Mystery Mixed Breeds.” ...

"Let the Good Talk Roll" Podcast Interview with Natalie Steuer
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
MUTTS: A Celebration of Mystery Mixed Breeds, speaks to any animal lover but specifically aims to warm hearts to rescue pups and raise awareness for their lovability -- and their dire need for adoption.
Creating and publishing MUTTS the book is only Olivia Grey Pritchard’s latest accomplishment but it is an incredibly cute one.
Olivia’s greatest loves are children, pets, and photography so she created a business where she can work with all three! Olivia Grey Pritchard Photography is an award-winning luxury family and pet portrait studio here in New Orleans. Olivia also provides education for working photographers, has been the New Orleans Area Coordinator (and an affiliated photographer) for the international nonprofit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, and has been the Regional Teaching Artist for Pablove Shutterbugs, a photography workshop for children living with cancer. A real humanitarian at heart, Olivia began her studio after working as a photographer and consultant for the United Nations in Burundi and Chad, and then as Advocacy and Communication Adviser for a nonprofit in eastern Congo.
I think Olivia’s background is supremely interesting and provides additional context for the making of MUTTS. The book contains over 100 adorable mutts and every photograph is accompanied by the pup’s name and best guess of breed mix -- as well as one fun fact about them.
