While most of my clients come to me already knowing they want art for their walls and some sort of book to tell their story with the images from their session, occasionally new clients really aren’t sure what they’re looking for. They just know that they are drawn to my style and the feeling in my portraits, and they want that for their family.
This is where the creative consultation comes in. Before your session, we’ll meet in the studio (or virtually, if necessary) so I can get to know a little bit about your family. We’ll also go over products, pricing details, and logistics like location and wardrobe. You’ll be able to see samples of the different types of wall art we offer, and look through albums and books we’ve created for our clients. Then we’ll talk more about how you want to enjoy these images in 10, 20, 50 years. Do you want a statement piece of wall art that will hang in a spot for years, or do you want to build a family gallery wall over time (or both)? Do you prefer a traditional album, or a contemporary coffee table book for your family’s images? We want to tell the story of your family in this moment, so most clients put most, if not all, of their images into either an album or a book. Either option looks beautiful displayed on a shelf, or mixed in with your other books on your coffee table. It’s something you can look through when you’re feeling nostalgic, something you can pass down to your children, and something you can sit with your grandchildren and look through together, telling them all about what their parents were like as kids. I once had a client say “well we don’t really look through them that much” – but that’s why we gift you a digital gallery in an app that you can download to your mobile devices, in addition to your OGP custom book/album. The book is something tangible, something special: your family’s visual legacy. Designing, printing, and building these heirloom books is an art. These images are important: they deserve more than to sit on a device or a computer. And I think we all know that scrolling through images on our iPads just hits differently than physically turning pages in a book you’re holding.
I recently had a dad in the studio who said to his wife, who wasn’t sure about a coffee table book: “you always say you you’re not sure, but then we always love it when we get it”.
Our main goal is to create heirloom fine art portraits for every client. OGP albums and books are the perfect way to have each session’s collection of portraits preserved in a fine art format for generations to come.
