"That is exactly how he looked right after I gave birth to him!" was one of the best compliments a mom gave me about her baby boy's newborn portraits. Your baby will only look like a newborn for a couple of weeks at most, and we want to make sure you have those memories captured forever with newborn photography. As a new parent, you have so many decisions to make, but my staff and I are here to take out all the guess-work from your newborn session. A session with OGP Photography is tailored to you and your goals for your portraits. We'll chat about what's important to you and I will guide you through the entire process!
One of the most frequent questions I get is "Which type of newborn session should I do?" We offer two styles of newborn sessions: Lifestyle (at home) and Studio (at our space in Uptown New Orleans). Before I chat about the differences between the two, I want to mention the similarities. At my studio, baby is the focus of the images, not stuff. So we don't have a lot of props and set pieces here at OGP. Going with the "less is more" aesthetic is not only more timeless than trendy props and sets, but also allows your new love to shine in the spotlight! And, no matter if the session is at our studio or at your home, we focus on taking beautiful, natural portraits of your newborn and capturing moments with the whole family. Here is an overview of the two styles of newborn sessions we offer:
Studio Newborn Sessions
Studio newborn sessions take place at our studio in Uptown New Orleans. For these sessions, there is an assistant to help hold and snuggle baby. This helps us get baby into very deep sleep so we can get her into those beautiful poses you see in our gallery of newborn photos. We have an assortment of backdrop fabrics, swaddles, and headpieces to add little details depending on your personal taste, but nothing that will distract from your baby's natural beauty!
If you prefer the more posed newborn images, then a Studio session is right for you. We use our studio lighting to create very controlled, specific images. Coming to our studio also means you don't have to worry about making sure your home is in shape for a photoshoot, but it does mean you have to leave the house! ;) Also, if you have a toddler to bring along, we've found a lot of times they do better in our studio because they're not as familiar with their surroundings.
Lifestyle Newborn Sessions
The biggest difference between the two session types is that Lifestyle sessions take place in your own home. We chat with you about how to prepare at your home before the session and make sure baby is in the best possible mood so everything goes smoothly. We'll use the spaces in your home that get the best natural light and just like studio sessions, everyone is included. Baby will have individual shots, shots with each parent, sibling shots, and then everyone together.
These sessions are very natural when it comes to posing. I don't get baby into those deep sleep poses for these sessions, but I do direct you on how to hold baby for the best angles and lighting. You'll get very natural, peaceful photos in your own home! So if you like the look of natural lighting and posing, Lifestyle might be the way for you to go. And, you don't have to leave home!
I love shooting both styles of newborn sessions. Those first few weeks of life as a new family are so important to capture for you and future generations. They pass by so quickly in a fog of sleep deprivation and exhaustion, and it's such a blur -- which is all the more reason to make sure to document this fleeting time. Have a professional capture it, guide you through the design and ordering process, and deliver finished products to you to display on your walls and coffee tables. I promise it's worth the effort, a hundred-fold. To see more images from each type of session, click the links to the newborn portfolios below. As always, feel free to contact me to chat more about your options and what will work best for your family. We can't wait to meet you and your little one!
